I should be writing. I have started my latest Sergeant Alan Murray crime novel, I know who the perpetrator is and the motivation, but - but - but. I can't seem to settle down, butt in chair, and start to write. Yes, I've written seven chapters but they are bitty, if you know what I mean. I need to review the characters, their motivations and the why of their involvement. And I need to create a story which will keep my readers interested. Sigh.
One of the best writing tips I ever read was that you should never finish a scene before stopping for the day. That way, you have something to go back to, something to work on. Well, (another sigh) I usually try to do this because it is very effective. However, last time I didn't, so I am facing a blank page with Chapter Eight at the top of it. I'm not sure which direction to take, where to pick up again.
I do have an excuse, sort of. I got the cataract in my left eye removed last Friday. All went well, thank God. My eye is a teeny bit tender and I have to put in those drops every four hours but it's not the end of the world. And it shouldn't keep me from writing. I mean, I am writing this blog, after all.
I think I'll make a mug of tea and pick up my last Sergeant Alan Murray mystery and see if that can get me up and running. I must admit I don't usually read my own novels, well just to check on names and locations which I continue to use, but I never sit down with one and read it from start to finish. Maybe I should try that.
The good news is that I have sold seven books last week. I nearly fell off my chair when I checked my KDP account. Seven books! My Christmas romance novels were among them and and a few Sergeant Alan Murray mysteries. I hope whoever reads them gets a lot of enjoyment.
Now, I guess I'll have to try and kick start my writing. First I'll put on the kettle.
